Transportation leaders in Congress to discuss infrastructure legislation at conference

Feb. 18, 2019

Congressional leaders have said a bill could be unveiled by this summer

Four key transportation leaders in Congress will hold an upcoming discussion regarding recent developments for infrastructure legislation at a policy conference hosted by the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO).

House Transportation Chairman Peter DeFazio (D-Ore.), committee ranking Republican Rep. Sam Graves of Missouri, Senate Environment and Public Works Chairman John Barrasso (R-Wyo.) and ranking Democrat Sen. Tom Carper of Delaware will lead the discussion on Wednesday, Feb. 27 for state-level transportation officials, according to Transport Topics.

State officials urged lawmakers to ensure sustainable funding for infrastructure projects during a recent House transportation committee hearing. DeFazio has suggested a bill could be unveiled by summer.

The event comes amidst continued calls from leading transportation infrastructure groups for long-term bipartisan policy solutions to finance and repair the nation's roads, highways and bridges. The advancement of an infrastructure policy update grows more urgent as federal funding authority for transportation programs expires in the fall of 2020

The AASHTO Washington Briefing will be held at the Washington Court Hotel in Washington, D.C.
