One of five bills passed in an appropriations package provides the U.S. DOT with an $86.6 billion budget for FY 2020

The U.S. House of Representatives this week passed a FY 2020 appropriations package consisting of five bills, one of which funds the U.S. DOT with $86.6 billion in budgetary resources.

The House passed the appropriations package, dubbed H.R. 3055, with a vote of 227 to 194.

The funding in the bill provided to U.S. DOT is $167 million above the 2019 enacted level and $3.7 billion above the president's budget request.

“This year’s transportation and housing funding bill, included in H.R. 3055, will benefit all American communities—urban and rural—and lay the foundation for economic growth and opportunity,” said House Appropriations Subcommittee on Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies (T-HUD) Chairman David Price, in a release. “It reflects the determination ... to seriously invest in infrastructure and to give affordable, accessible housing the priority it deserves. It makes transportation and housing safer, addresses the pressing needs of our most vulnerable citizens, and mitigates and responds to the impacts of climate change.”

T-HUD approved the bill back in May, which also includes $1 billion for National Infrastructure Investments (TIGER/BUILD), $10 million to start a new Highly Automated Systems Safety Center of Excellence, and $48.9 billion for the Federal Highway Administration.

Other transportation investments from the bill include $1 billion for the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration; $3 billion for the Federal Railroad Administration; and $13.5 billion for the Federal Transit Administration

The legislation now moves on to the Senate for consideration.
