The Utah DOT (UDOT) recently said the I-15 Technology Corridor project in Silicon Slopes is on schedule for completion in late 2020.
UDOT crews began working on the project in April 2018. Now in its second year of construction, the tech corridor is the last remaining section of I-15 between Salt Lake City and Spanish Fork where the freeway is still only four lanes wide.
UDOT will widen I-15 in Utah County with two new lanes in each direction from Lehi's Main Street to S.R. 92. UDOT also will be building a new bridge at Triumph Boulevard and perform the complete reconstruction of two freeway interchanges at 2100 North and S.R. 92.
The cost has dropped from initial estimates of $450 million to $415 million, which the agency attributed to competitive bids, according to a report from KUTV.
According to a Daily Herald report, the majority of the funding comes from the Transportation Improvement Fund, which was set up by the state Legislature and utilizes taxes collected from automobile purchases.
