TRANSIT: Florida County Puts Restrictions on Ride-Sharing

Aug. 15, 2014

Services are placed in "non-luxury limousines" category

Ride-sharing services are in a new “non-luxury limousines” category in Hillsborough County, Florida. Services such as Uber and Lyft can operate if they charge customers a minimum of $30 and require riders to book a half-hour in advance.

Neither company has responded to these restrictions, which would limit the freedom they have in the Tampa-St. Petersburg-Clearwater-metropolitan area.

These restrictions are the latest approach as cities across the country try to address the concerns of both traditional taxi companies and ride-sharing services.
