The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) is beginning its three-year project to rebuild 8.5 miles of Interstate 94 on March 11.
According to MDOT officials, the project will rework the stretch of I-94 starting from Puetz Road in Stevensville and ending at Britain Avenue in Benton Township.
The east and westbound lanes along I-94 will be rebuilt from Puetz Road to Washington Avenue. MDOT says two lanes of I-94 will be open during construction.
Northbound traffic from Red Arrow Highway to westbound I-94 will be detoured onto Red Arrow Highway and John Beers Road to westbound I-94. Inversely, drivers that would typically travel south down Red Arrow Highway and east over to I-94 will be detoured onto John Beers Road to eastbound I-94.
The project also seeks to rebuild four bridges by 2026, two on Red Arrow Highway and two Pipestone Road bridges, as well as repair nine others in Benton, St. Joseph, and Lincoln townships.
The first bridge project that begins demolition will be along I-94 at Exit 23 of Red Arrow Highway. It will be closed from March 11 to April 5.
The project is expected to support approximately 2,900 jobs.
The project is estimated to cost $205 million.
