On Aug. 18 U.S. Secretary of Transportation Norm Mineta welcomed Nicole Nason as the new Assistant Secretary for Governmental Affairs for the U.S. DOT. The U.S. Senate confirmed her on July 23.
"Nicole's experience and energy will serve us well as we move forward on critical legislative initiatives," Mineta said. "I look forward to working with her and warmly welcome her to our team."
Nason comes to the U.S. DOT from the U.S. Customs Service, where she was assistant commissioner of the Office of Congressional Affairs. She served as counsel for the House Judiciary Committee under Chairman Henry Hyde of Illinois and as communications director for Intelligence Committee Chairman Porter Goss of Florida. Previously, Nason served as a government affairs counselor for the Metropolitan Life Insurance Co.
Nason earned her bachelor's degree at American University and her law degree at Case Western University Law School.
The Office of Governmental Affairs represents the department in its dealings with Congress, working closely with members and committee and personal staff on legislative and constituent issues. The office also works closely with state and local governments, other federal agencies, public and special interest groups, transportation associations and non-profit organizations.
