The National Asphalt Pavement Association is rolling out plans for its 50th Annual Convention.
J.C. Watts will be the keynote speaker at the event, and the entertainment will be highlighted by the legendary 50's groups--the Coasters, the Drifters and the Platters.
Watts has earned the attention and admiration of many since his days when he thrilled many as star quarterback of the University of Oklahoma Sooners. Twice he led his team to victories in the Orange Bowl, and both times earned the event's MVP Award. As a professional, he was named the MVP of the Grey Cup, Canada's Super Bowl. Turning his attention to politics, Watts ran for the House of Representatives and won in 1994. He quickly rose to the position of chairman of the House Republican Conference, the fourth-highest position in the House. He was honorary co-chairman of the 2000 Republican National Convention. Today, he is a member of several corporate boards and is co-chairman of the Coalition for AIDS Relief in Africa.
On the entertainment side, The Coasters, Drifters and Platters are famous for hits like "Under the Boardwalk," "Poison Ivy," "The Great Pretender," "On Broadway" and many others. Original artists from each group, together with performers recruited from Broadway, uphold the high standard set by the original groups.
NAPA's 50th Annual Convention is Feb. 13-17, 2005. More information can be found on NAPA's website (www.hotmix.org/view_article.php?ID=72.
