No. 7 - U.S. 36 Flood Repairs

One of the most powerful fl oods in Colorado history was

followed by a rush of success as crews scrambled to get

major routes back open to traffi c. U.S. 36 was the first

mountain corridor to begin and complete emergency and

permanent repairs following the natural disaster. The first

phase of the project, completed in May, included the stabilization

of embankments above and below the highway

and near the river in addition to shifting the alignment of

U.S. 36 away from the body of water.
