Standard features have been improved and new features are available in several current models of skid-steer loaders.
Operator comfort and ease of use is optimized with larger cabs and better visibility. Case’s models have cabs that are 25% larger than older editions. Bobcat made its loader easier to maintain, and it has a cab that allows the operator to sit closer to the attachment for better visibility. Safety is a priority in Volvo’s loaders, which offer increased visibility as well as side entry and exit of the cab.
All seven of the machines in JCB’s line are vertical lift, giving them even more reach at maximum lift height. Gehl’s and Mustang’s loaders get 131 in. of lift height; more lift means it is easier to load trucks and handle material.
Productivity has not been forgotten, either. New Holland Construction’s loaders have a 53° dump angle, which empties the bucket faster to increase cycle times. Two of John Deere’s models now have two speeds and can shift during operation, which makes the same loader more versatile. Terex offers better fuel economy with load-sensing hydraulics to ensure that fuel is not being wasted.
Machines with muscle
Innovation, technology and design come together in the new tracked and wheeled Volvo MC110C and MC135C. A single-tower loader arm delivers the loading performance and durability of the traditional design, while improving operator safety, through increased visibility and with the new side entry and exit of the cab, which eliminates the need for the operator to climb over a muddy or slippery bucket or attachment. With the ability to use a wide range of attachments, the versatility of these vertical- and radial-lift machines provides opportunity for year-round use.
Safety, reliability, convenience
The Cat skid-steer loader B-Series 3 models have design refinements including a redesigned dead-engine lower valve. This promotes safe operation by providing an easier-to-use means of lowering the lift arms—allowing safe exit for the operator—if the machine should run out of fuel or the engine stall with the lift arms raised. The long cable and pull-type knob used to activate this system on old models has been replaced with a low-effort, low-maintenance lever-action handle that acts directly on the hydraulic relief valve.
Power, economy, comfort
Case Construction Equipment launched its new Alpha Series of skid steers, introducing nine models. The new Case machines deliver best-in-class horsepower and breakout force. They offer comfortable cabs and 16- to 25.5-gal fuel tanks; the cabs are 25% larger as well. The new Power Stance chassis design features a longer wheelbase. This added stability means that operators will be able to lift and haul more material. The new Case skid steers feature a front/rear weight distribution of 30/70. Combined with the longer wheelbase, this keeps the center of gravity from moving when the loader arms are raised.
More reach, extra features
JCB has introduced seven new skid-steer loaders and compact track loaders—four-wheeled and three-tracked. All seven are vertical lift, allowing increased capacity and more reach at maximum lift height. The models now available are large-platform machines with rated operating capacities of 2,600 lb and above. The new machines have a number of new features, including: a tilting cab with increased service access; multifunction joysticks; a hydraulic quick hitch; an isolated cab that is sealed and pressurized with reduced noise levels; and O-ring face seals for all hydraulic connections.
Work faster and smarter
The 200 Series of seven skid-steer loaders from New Holland Construction come equipped with a variety of features and options, as well as some standards. The 53° dump angle lets operators empty the bucket faster, increasing cycle times and productivity. For long load and carry operations, the optional Glide Ride feature on the five New Holland skid-steer loader models with the Super Boom design ensures a smooth ride over the roughest jobsite. The cab has plenty of head and foot room, keyless start, a high-intensity lighting package and switchable ISO and H-pattern control options.
Two speeds to do more
John Deere is introducing a two-speed option to its mid-frame 318D and 320D skid-steer loader models. Ground speed is increased by as much as 62% on both manual and E/H controls machines, from 6.8 to 11 mph. It is engineered to provide a second gear for a variety of work, including landscaping, highway, bridge and municipal. Shift-on-the-go capability allows operators to kick into higher travel speeds with a simple flip of a toggle switch on the left-hand joystick. Electronically controlled shifting allows for seamless transition during upshifts and downshifts.
Efficient lifting and loading
Bobcat’s S750 skid-steer loader can be used for construction, landscaping, nurseries and other applications. Lifting and loading is easier and faster because the machine achieves maximum reach at full lift height. The S750 has an operating weight of 8,730 lb, a rated operating capacity of 3,200 lb and is powered by an 85-hp turbo-diesel engine. Simple checks make it easier to perform maintenance correctly and at the proper intervals. The redesigned cooling system is easier to clean. A cab-forward design moves the operator closer to the attachment and provides unmatched visibility in all directions.
Incredible lift
Gehl’s V330 skid loader achieves over 131 in. of lift height, making material handling and truck loading simple. The lift-arm design provides optimal views to the sides of the loader and a direct line of sight to the bucket cutting edge. Thick steel plating braces the lift arm, providing additional strength and durability. Equipped with electronic engine control and a foot throttle, the V330 can be operated at partial throttle as the workload allows for lower sound levels and reduced fuel consumption, but has a powerful Yanmar turbocharged diesel engine with 215-lb-ft peak torque.
Productivity standard
Both vertical-lift-path and radial-lift-path skid-steer loaders are part of the Terex line. Terex machines offer high ground clearances and rear angles of departure, high travel speeds and mechanical-faced axle seals. The loaders are designed with load-sensing hydraulics to ensure that fuel is not wasted, so operators can push material, dig, grade and drive through the toughest jobsites, yet conserve power when requirements are less demanding. For increased versatility, the loader arms are designed to easily accommodate over-the-tire steel tracks.
Built to tow and haul
The RTV900XT from Kubota is the newest version of its popular RTV900 workhorse utility vehicle model. Building on the strengths of Kubota’s exclusive diesel-powered RTV900, the new model features an improved Kubota-exclusive Variable Hydro Transmission (VHT) Plus2, which boasts substantial torque to maximize towing and hauling performance. The new transmission, coupled with smooth, dynamic braking and easier shifting, makes the Kubota RTV900XT ideal for the toughest residential and professional jobs.
Heavy-duty but stable
Mustang’s 3300V skid-steer loader has a Yanmar Tier III 84-hp, 215-ft-lb turbocharged diesel engine and an operating capacity of 3,300 lb. A vertical-lift boom offers customers enhanced stability and more than 131 in. of lift height and provides significant forward reach at trailer loading and dumping heights. An extra-long wheelbase and new chassis design enhance stability and provide superior weight distribution. Electronic engine control and foot throttle allow operation at partial throttle, reducing sound levels and fuel consumption.
