No. 6 - I-81 and Navy Way Road Extension

Oct. 5, 2017

One of the largest capacity projects in Pennsylvania, the I-81/Navy Way Road project combined two access points on I-81’s NB and SB lanes into one; installed three multilane roundabouts, reconstructed 1.5 miles of I-81; and built a new 1-mile Navy Way Road to connect the interstate to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Airport property. Crews worked in close proximity to the airport, with water detention and full access to operations being persistent challenges. A new 300,000-sq-ft FedEx location is now operable as a result of the project.
