Summary

Keeping pedestrians safe in work zones can be challenging when road construction, maintenance or utility work closes a sidewalk, moves a crossing or changes a familiar route. These changes can place people closer to traffic or active work areas and can make it challenging for pedestrians to move safely through or around a work zone.

This educational webinar will follow the pedestrian journey through a work zone and highlight three practical approaches that addresses different points along the way. Attendees will learn how a temporary pedestrian signal can support safer roadway crossings, how positive protection can separate pedestrians from traffic and work activities, and how a temporary pedestrian pathway can maintain access when an existing sidewalk or walkway is closed.

Speakers will share the safety need behind each approach, how it works, lessons learned from real-world use cases and key considerations for agencies and contractors. The featured solutions were identified through ATSSA's New Product Rollout program, part of the ATSSA Innovation Center. The session will give agencies, contractors and other roadway professionals practical ideas to consider when planning safer pedestrian routes in work zones.
