New West Virginia Gov. Joe Manchin has appointed Danny Ellis as Secretary of Transportation and Paul Mattox as Commissioner of Highways.
Ellis moves up to his current post after serving as chief financial officer and assistant secretary of the department of transportation. Mattox, a native of Nitro, W.Va., began his career with the West Virginia Division of Highways as a student and rose through the ranks before leaving for a private-sector job in 1987. Mattox left his job as general manager with E.L. Robinson Engineering Co. of Cross Lanes, W. Va., to take the commissioner's post.
Before Ellis joined the department in 1997, he was country administrator of Logan County, W.Va., the assistant comptroller for the Logan Division of the Pittston Co. and an accountant for Precision Hydraulics.
