URS Corp. has been retained by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) to provide on-call bridge design services throughout the state for TxDOT's central bridge division.
One of its initial projects will be the design of a state-of-the-art fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) bridge as part of an FHWA demonstration project. The replacement of the FM 1684 bridge in Refugio County outside the city of Corpus Christi is proposed to utilize pultruded fiber-reinforced polymer beams and a FRP deck. The substructure and guardrail are proposed to be reinforced concrete.
Other projects are likely to include preparation of engineering drawings for overpasses, underpasses, stream crossings, railroad structures, interchanges, segmental bridges and other complex structures. In addition to new structures, projects should include bridge widening, rehabilitation and modification of existing structures.
