TRANSIT: CTC awards funding to freight, rail transit projects

Jan. 27, 2017

Over $25 million will be dedicated to three California freight and rail transit projects

The California Transportation Commission (CTC) has allocated more than $127 million to 49 projects to maintain the state's infrastructure systems.

The allocation includes more than $25 million for freight and rail transit projects that will improve service and safety.

The largest allocation, $23 million, will go toward the Stockton to Escalon Double Track Project, Segment 4. This project will construct 5.7 miles of double track on BNSF's Stockton Subdivision in San Joaquin County, and the funds will help pay for project engineering, civil, track, signal, siding upgrades and grade-crossing modifications.

The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority received a $1.9 million allocation to build improvements at Los Angeles Union Station that will allow Red and Purple subway lines to offer more frequent service.

The San Bernardino County Transportation Authority received $720,000 toward building two grade separations. The first is located in Yuma at Hunts Lane over Union Pacific tracks and the second in San Bernardino at State Street/University Parkway over BNSF tracks. Both of these projects have already been completed.
