House and Senate staffs closely involved in negotiations on the TEA-LU legislation are reporting that senior conferees have resolved all outstanding issues between the two versions of the legislation except for one. The sole remaining issue is a contract authority budgetary issue, which is a concern of the Administration.
Staff anticipates that this issue should be resolved and that soon there after a report of the conference committee agreement can be filed in the House. That step is the necessary step required for the bill to be brought to the House floor for a final vote.
Following the House vote, the measure will be sent to the Senate for its approval and then on to the White House. With the expectation that the budgetary issue is resolved, it is anticipated that President Bush will sign the bill.
