Richard B. Stander Sr. of Mansfield, Ohio, the former president of the Mansfield Asphalt Paving Co., was awarded the George S. Bartlett Award at the Transportation Research Board Annual Meeting in Washington, D.C.
The American Association of State Highway & Transportation Officials, the American Road & Transportation Builders Association and TRB have made the award yearly since 1931 for contributions to the progress of highways. Stander served as chairman of ARTBA in 1978 and devoted more than 50 years in the transportation construction business.
Stander also served as director of the Ohio Transportation Research Center, as past chairman of both the National Asphalt Pavement Association and the Ohio Contractors Association, and was a member of the joint AASHTO-ARTBA-Associated General Contractors of America Committee.
