NTTA to adopt all-electronic tollbooth system

Aug. 16, 2007

The North Texas Tollway Authority (NTTA) voted Aug. 15 to adopt an all-electronic tollbooth system by 2010, eliminating staffed tollbooths and cash payments to cut down on traffic.

Customers who already have electronic "TollTags" won't notice a change. Cameras will photograph the license plates of drivers without TollTags and a bill will be sent to the vehicle’s registered address.

Officials say the change will affect about 400 toll collection employees, but that new jobs will be found within the system for the employees.
