New Pennsylvania law to expand use of red light cameras

July 3, 2012

Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Corbett is expected to sign a bill into law this week that would expand the use of red light cameras in Pittsburgh and suburban Philadelphia, subject to approval by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.

Having passed the state Senate already, the bill was approved by the state House of Representatives on Sunday. Under the new law, the city of Philadelphia would continue to operate the cameras through 2017; they will be installed in Pittsburgh and any Philadelphia suburbs with at least 20,000 residents and accredited police departments.
