The new Lake Champlain Bridge that connects Addison, Vt., to Crown Point, N.Y., is scheduled to open on Monday, Nov. 7, following a 2:30 p.m. ceremony that will be hosted by both Vermont Gov. Peter Shumlin and New York Lt. Gov. Robert Duffy.
The bridge opening will take place a little more than two years following the emergency closure of the original, historic structure, which was closed for safety reasons on Oct. 16, 2009, and demolished less than six months later on Dec. 28, 2009.
The $70 million new bridge contains a signature arch design that fits the character of the area and resembles the look of the original 80-year-old Lake Champlain Bridge. It is also designed in such a way that it will last for many decades with minimal maintenance costs.
