Dec. 5, 2018

Charlotte-based Lane Blythe Construction Joint Venture will receive $403 million to complete the project

The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) has awarded the first of three contracts for the Complete 540 project in the greater Raleigh area.

This week, the department announced that Charlotte-based Lane Blythe Construction Joint Venture will receive $403 million to work on the project. Specifically, the joint venture will complete the section that extends the Triangle Expressway from U.S. 401 to I-40. Construction is expected to begin in 2019.

In June, the North Carolina Turnpike Authority indicated that about $1.2 billion in design-build grants would be made available for the 16-mile stretch between N.C. 55 and I-40.

The $2.2 billion Complete 540 project, also known as the Southeast Extension, would extend the Triangle Expressway from the N.C. 55 Bypass in Apex to U.S. 64/U.S. 264 (I-495) in Knightdale, completing the 540 Outer Loop around the greater Raleigh area. NCDOT plans to complete the project, which has been designated a priority by the state, in 2023.
