Louisiana Blvd./I-40 Interchange, Albuquerque, N.M.

Oct. 1, 2005
To handle 20-year traffic volumes of 250,000, the contractor and DOT selected a single-point urban interchange (SPUI), a first for New Mexico. The design involved many challenges. The bridge had to be designed to accommodate future widening of I-40 in both directions and had to be wide enough to facilitate turning vehicles on the SPUI deck. Total cost: $19.9 million.
