Caterpillar, Peoria, Ill., has acquired 100% of the capital stock of Bitelli S.p.A., a major European manufacturer of asphalt pavers, cold planers, compactors and other equipment for road construction and maintenance, with manufacturing facilities in Italy. Caterpillar also has acquired all distribution and service agreements with Bitelli dealers worldwide, as well as consultant agreements relating to distribution.
"This acquisition furthers Caterpillar’s commitment to the worldwide paving industry in general and the European industry in particular," said Vito Baumgartner, vice president of Caterpillar Inc. and chairman of Caterpillar S.A.R.L. Baumgartner also stated Bitelli’s expertise in the asphalt paving and cold planing sectors is especially valuable to Caterpillar’s growth in these businesses in Europe.
"Even though Bitelli manufactures some of the same types and sizes of equipment as Caterpillar, there are many models that represent enhancements and additions to our product line," said Richard Cooper, president of Caterpillar Paving Products Inc. "The fit is complementary and strategic."
Bitelli has four manufacturing facilities, 41 models of asphalt pavers, cold planers, stabilizers and compaction equipment and 64 dealers, distributors and branch offices.
