BOMAG announces new paving training program to help operators and companies get the most from their equipment
Dec. 17, 2018—BOMAG understands the need for continual training on paving and compaction equipment and now offers two new courses that focus on equipment operator training at their South Carolina FAYAT Academy training center. These new BOMAG schools for paving and roller training provide attendees with first-hand knowledge on how to optimally operate, maintain and care for the machine. Each course is taught by BOMAG specialists, one of the road building industry’s most experienced teams. The sessions are set up to address individual questions as well as theoretical and practical content. The first course (offered Jan. 15-16, Jan. 29-30, Feb. 5-6 and March 5-6 in 2019) is a two-day paving training for operators and supervisors designed specifically to help paver operators improve mat smoothness and quality. The course focuses on paver and screed set-up with hands-on paver and screed operation. The second course (offered Jan. 17, Jan. 31, Feb. 7 and March 7 in 2019) covers asphalt compaction and hands-on roller training.
Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute announces PCI Journal Awards for 2018
Dec. 17, 2018—Each year, the Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute’s PCI Journal Awards Committee recognizes the best papers published in the PCI Journal. This year's honorees were recognized at the PCI Committee Days & Membership Conference Awards Luncheon in October in Rosemont, Illinois. This year’s winners include:
- The Robert Lyman Award was presented to Tom Baker, M. Saiid Saiidi, Brian Nakashoji, Jed Bingle, Tim Moore, and Bijan Khaleghi, authors of "Precast concrete spliced-girder bridge in Washington State using superelastic materials in bridge columns to improve seismic resiliency: From Research to Practice," which was published in the January-February 2018 issue. The award recognizes the paper that contributes to the advancement of construction, production, and erection of precast and prestressed concrete;
- The Martin P. Korn Award was presented to Mohamed K. Nafadi, Omar M. Khalafalla, Gregory W. Lucier, Sami Rizkalla, Paul Zia, and Gary J. Klein, authors of "Development of design guidelines for ledges of L-shaped beams;" "Ledge behavior and strength of long-span L-shaped beams;" and "Ledge behavior and strength of short-span L-shaped beams," all of which were published in the March-April 2018 issue. The award recognizes the paper that contributes to the design and research to the advancement of precast and prestressed concrete;
- Yihai Bao received the George Nasser Award for "Performance of precast concrete moment frames subjected to column removal" Part 1, experimental study," and "Performance of precast concrete moment frames subjected to column removal: Part 2, computational analysis," both of which were published in the September-October 2017 issue. Co-authors: H.S. Lew, Joseph A. Main, Fahim Sadek, Vincent P. Chiarito, Stephen D. Robert, and Jorge O. Torres-Alamo. The award recognizes the paper that contributes to the design, research, production, or construction of precast/prestressed concrete structures for authors 40 years of age or under; and
- Michael Brandies and Yahya Kurama received the Charles Zollman Award for "Effect of recycled concrete aggregates on strength and stiffness gain of concrete and on board strength of steel prestressing strand," which was published in the March-April 2018 issue. The award recognizes the paper that most advances the state-of-the-art of precast and prestressed concrete.
Genie expands sales team in North America
Dec. 14, 2018—Responding to increasing demands for aerial equipment and solutions in North America, Genie has expanded its sales team to include Nate Alonzo, Jon Cotts, Connor Dugan, Matt Fitzsimmons and Max Izotov. These team members will support all Genie products and services, working to meet customers’ equipment needs, developing new growth opportunities and focusing on customers’ business goals. Alonzo comes to the Genie team with a business administration degree from Maryville University. His previous work experience includes being a Sales Associate for SKLZ Inc. and a Claims Adjustor at AAA Insurance. Cotts has a marketing degree with a professional sales concentration from Central Michigan University. Before joining the sales team, Cotts worked in the marketing department at Terex AWP. Dugan received his diploma from Arizona State University—College of Integrative Sciences and Arts. His work history includes Sales Manager at Shapland Golf Bags and Assistant Golf Professional at Blackstone Country Club. Fitzsimmons graduated with a bachelor’s degree in business from the University of Florida. Before joining the Genie team, he interned with two Fortune 500 companies in sales capacities. Izotov earned a BSBA degree, with a concentration in operations management, from Boston University. He joins Genie with experience as a brand educator at Vitacoco, as well as roles within tech start-ups.
Doosan Infracore North America opens 100,000-sq-ft parts distribution center in Georgia
Dec. 11, 2018—Doosan Infracore North America proudly announced it is opening a new 100,000-sq-ft parts distribution center, serving its dealers and Doosan customers in the U.S. and Canada. Strategically located, the new parts distribution center allows Doosan Infracore North America to provide both dealers and customers with better service options, deeper inventory and faster parts delivery. The parts distribution center is located adjacent to the Doosan Infracore North America headquarters in Suwanee, Ga., situated approximately 30 miles northeast of Atlanta. The center will stock approximately 40,000 stock keeping units (SKUs) that can be shipped to service Doosan construction equipment throughout the U.S. and Canada.
