ARTBA Foundation seeks nominations for annual industry leader development program
Feb. 6, 2019—The American Road & Transportation Builders Association Transportation Development Foundation (ARTBA-TDF) is accepting nominations for its 2019 Industry Leader Development Program (ILDP), a first-of-its-kind “101” introduction to federal and state advocacy for transportation infrastructure market development and protection. It will be held May 13-15 in the Nation’s Capital. The ILDP and its associated Industry Leader Development Council (ILDC) boasts of nearly 700 graduates from over 200 industry firms, state contractor chapters and public agencies over the past 23 years. The immersive, two-and-a-half day program provides an understanding of industry economics, how transportation work in the U.S. is funded and financed, how actions by the federal government impact the industry, and how to become politically engaged to help shape transportation policy. ILDP fellows also will visit with their members of Congress to discuss the need for congressional action on a permanent Highway Trust Fund solution and new infrastructure investment package. A letter of nomination and recommendation written by a principal of the firm, a senior executive within the governmental agency, or a senior-level faculty member at the university which employs the applicant must accompany each application. Applications must be received at ARTBA’s offices in Washington, D.C., by Monday, April 1.
Doosan Portable Power names Hoffman Equipment an authorized distributor
Feb. 1, 2019—Doosan Portable Power has named Hoffman Equipment as an authorized distributor. The company will supply Doosan Portable Power air compressors, generators, light towers and light compaction equipment throughout New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania. Hoffman Equipment has been serving the construction, transportation and equipment industries for 100 years and has a strong presence in the Northeast markets. The company is known for its excellent service and customer support. The Piscataway, N.J.-based distributor recently acquired Penn-Jersey Machinery locations in Deptford and Middlesex, N.J., and Lionville, Pa. The additional locations add to Hoffman Equipment's existing presence in New Jersey and New York, while expanding into the eastern Pennsylvania region.
American Society of Concrete Contractors elects officers for 2019, including new President Chris Forster
Jan. 31, 2019—Chris Forster, Largo Concrete, Tustin, Calif., has been elected president of the American Society of Concrete Contractors (ASCC), St. Louis, MO for 2019-2020. Bill Bramschreiber, Charles Pankow Builders; Anthony DeCarlo, TWC Concrete Services; and Mario Garza, Barton Malow, were reelected vice presidents. Chris Klemaske, T.B. Penick & Sons, was elected a vice president and Kevin Riley, Belfast Valley Contractors, was elected treasurer. Dr. Heather Brown, Middle Tennessee State University; Maizer Ouijdani, Conco; and Keith Wayne, Wayne Brothers, were elected as directors and Heston Hamilton, Ductilcrete Slab Systems; David Somero, S&S Concrete Floors; and Jason Swagert, Citadel Contractors, were reelected directors.
Gov. Sisolak announces appointment of Kristina Swallow as director of Nevada DOT
Jan. 31, 2019—Gov. Steve Sisolak announced that the Board of Directors of the Nevada Department of Transportation approved the governor’s recommendation of Kristina Swallow to be the department director. Kristina Swallow has nearly 25 years of experience working in the civil engineering industry and government to address challenges faced by clients and agencies and advancing their priorities. She is the past president of the American Society of Civil Engineers. Most recently, Kristina worked for the city of Las Vegas as a program manager in the Department of Public Works, City Engineer Division. As a practicing civil engineer, Kristina has worked in a number of technical areas including flood control, traffic impact analysis and mitigation, land development, public works and transportation policy. Her roles have included being a small business owner, working as a consultant, serving as a program manager in city government, working as a lobbyist in the Nevada State Legislature, and working as a legislative aide in the U.S. Senate where she was able to negotiate language in the final passage of MAP-21 (PL 112-141). Kristina has a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Arizona, a Master of Science in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the University of Nevada Las Vegas and has completed additional studies within the UNLV College of Urban Affairs.
