Webinar overview:

In this one hour course, we will discover the strengths and advantages of FEVE fluoropolymer topcoats for both new bridges and maintenance re-coating of existing bridges, including:

Conventional Coating Systems

  • Zinc rich primer, epoxy and polyurethane topcoat
  • Good corrosion protection
  • Good resistance to chalk and color fade for five to 10 years on average

Fluoropolymer Coating Systems

  • Zinc rich primer, epoxy and fluorinated urethane
  • Developed in the early 1980s; wide use by the 1990s

We will review the decades-long history of real-time and accelerated testing of FEVE fluoropolymer coatings in Japan due to their extensive use on bridge infrastructure.

We will also assess the life-cycle cost advantage of FEVE topcoats despite its higher initial cost compared to other topcoat formulations.

Kristen has 20 years of experience in the coatings industry working for various coating, chemical and material manufacturing companies. Her early experience as an analytical chemist allowed her to develop a unique approach to formulation with a focus on structure-property relationships. Other positions she has held include a UV curable coatings formulator and a technical service chemist. In January of 2013, Kristen accepted the position of technical service chemist for the LUMIFLON product line. In November of 2015, she moved into a business development role and now works with strategic LUMIFLON accounts.LUMIFLON is a brand of FEVE fluoropolymer resins manufactured by Asahi Glass Company. Kristen has a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from the University of Evansville in Indiana.

Company profile:

LUMIFLON FEVE Resins were developed by Asahi Glass in 1982 as the world’s first solvent-soluble fluoropolymers. In the past 25 years, fluoropolymer coatings based on LUMIFLON FEVE Resins have been produced by paint manufacturers around the world, and applied to over 150,000 structures. The use of LUMIFLON FEVE Resins offers substantial life cycle cost savings compared to conventional coating.
