ADS offers its new N-12 ProLink Ultra pipe intended for use in storm sewer and other gravity flow drainage systems. Initial diameters range from 12 to 36 in., it features the same smooth interior wall for maximum hydraulic flow and a corrugated exterior for strength, as the company's N-12 pipe. According to ADS it typically takes only two to three minutes to join a 20-ft section of the product. "One experienced person could easily install 360 ft of this pipe in one day in a typical dig-and-connect job," said Tom King, ADS engineering vice president.

"There's only one person in a 15- to 20-ft-deep trench, so there's less worry about someone stepping outside the trench box or crowding another worker out of that safety zone. We have also designed the bell with reinforcing ribs which will minimize distortion leading to easier installation," King explains.

American Excelsior Co.

The company's newest product is Fiber-Cel a hydraulic mulch. Produced from a blend of two mulch ingredients-wood fibers and cellulose, the properties of both of these elements create a greenhouse effect for germinating seeds. The wood fiber content is known for its ability to act as a carrying agent for additives, including tackifiers and water retention agents. When used with tackifiers, these fibers hold nutrients close to the seed for better germination and growth. The product's cellulose component is utilized for its ability to fill in spaces between soil particles, creating a paper-mache effect on the soil. The suggested application rate is 2,000 lb per acre on 3:1 slopes or less.

The company also offers the Tri-Lock concrete revetment system. It is a flexible system consisting of pre-cast concrete blocks which key together for both stability and integrity, while allowing for revegetation.

Amoco

Amoco offers a full line of woven and nonwoven geotextile fabrics for erosion control. Applications include drainage channels, shorelines, and bridge and pier scour protection. Without a geotextile filter, wave action and water movement erode subgrade soils from beneath the riprap of armor. Degradation of the subgrade negate the benefit of the riprap or armor, resulting in extensive repair and replacement.

Corma Inc.

Corma has a new machine in its Toronto plant, the Model 4020 corrugator, capable of producing 48-in. interior diameter double wall corrugated plastic pipe. The pipe was produced a the rate of 2,700 lb per hour. "We are especially pleased to demonstrate that this machine produced pipe immediately upon start-up," said Manfred Lupke, president, Corma. The machine also can produce pipe in 44-in., 40-in., 36-in., 32-in., 28-in., 24-in., 20-in. and 15-in. interior diameters.

CSR Pipe and Concrete Products

CSR offers the Stormceptor system, which removes oils and sediment from road and highway runoff and prevents non-point source pollution from reaching our waterways. The product will not release trapped pollutants between servicing, even in periods of peak water flow. The vertical orientation of the unit allows the product to be installed in similar space allowance of a standard manhole. It is designed to withstand HS-20 live loads.

Hancor Hancor offers a full line of corrugated polyethylene pipe, which start at 4 in. and includes diameters up to 60 in. The larger sizes, from 36 in. to 60 in., have been received, thanks to the increased flexibility and cost savings specifiers can gain.

"On larger stormwater projects, engineers and contractors had been forced to use a combined pipe system, using polyethylene for smaller diameters and traditional pipe materials for larger diameters," according to Bill Altermat, Hancor's vice president of marketing.

Now larger systems can be comprised entirely of polyethylene, which means even greater cost savings, ease of handling and hydraulic capacity. Another benefit that cities, counties and private engineers have realized from large diameter pipe is that installation does not require heavy equipment, as does concrete and corrugated metal pipe.

North American Green

North American Green's C350 erosion control turf reinforcement mat works with vegetation to provide comparable erosion protection. With a patent pending combination of coconut fiber and high strength 3-D netting structure, the product provides soil stabilization as well as permanent reinforcement for vegetation. It provides channel protection under flows with up to 8 lb per sq ft of shear stress, on par with the FHWA's recommendations for 24 riprap. The product also can be installed without heavy equipment.

Presto Products Co.

Presto's tendoned, large-cell Geoweb cellular confinement system was specified to protect a new bridge's approach embankment. The large-cell system stabilized the slope and allowed trees and shrubs to be planted within the cells. The system provides solutions for earth retention, channel and slope protection, and load support needs.

Soils Control International

SCI offers its flagship product, Top-Seal liquid soil sealant and stabilizer, for controlling the problems associated with dust pollution, soil-base deterioration, and soil erosion. After proper application, the product quickly cures into a hardened membrane which traps soil particles and loose aggregates providing an excellent upper-level base course. The product is a concentrated chemical that requires varying dilution rates. This allows government agencies to employ more product at a lesser cost than other soil stabilizers and sealants. Dilution rates can be altered to promote a more precise solution for all types of soil requirements or conditions.

Synthetic Industries Inc.

Synthetic Industries offers its Pyramat, a three-dimensional, engineered matrix that allows vegetation to anchor on surfaces that would otherwise not sustain plant growth. It is a permanent erosion and reinforcement matrix, which can be used on steepened slopes; high-flow drainage channels; landfill caps and slope structures; dam, dike and levee protection; and bank and shoreline stabilization.
