A linear referencing solution (LRS) brings many benefits to an organization, often becoming the foundation of its transportation asset management processes. An LRS must provide the ability to manage and report against the assets located on the linear network. Departments of transportation need to report against the network based on varying information along the length of the network, such as with the Federal Highway Performance Monitoring System, which relies heavily on the ability to dynamically segment the network based on features and assets, and using those features and attributes in the resulting reports. This paper discusses the features an LRS needs to provide to meet an organization’s corporate asset management requirements and how an LRS can provide the best possible foundation for an organization’s asset management needs.
