The American Road & Transportation Builders Association (ARTBA) has hired Jerry Teeler as director of safety. Teeler will be responsible for implementing existing ARTBA safety training programs and developing new ones, administering federal safety contract projects and providing safety instruction and counsel for ARTBA member firms and transportation agencies.

Teeler has more than 15 years experience managing government and private-sector safety and health programs, with an extensive background in the construction field. Prior to joining ARTBA, he served as corporate safety director for Scurry Construction Inc., a civil/utility contractor located in North Carolina. Teeler also worked five years as corporate safety and health manager with the Tennessee-based Rogers Group Inc. He assisted in implementing the DuPont Safety System, which resulted in a 75% injury reduction rate for the company over a two-year period.

Teeler has held safety positions with the Morris Knudsen Corp. in Ohio, Tennessee and Mexico, Metric Constructors Inc. in Georgia and Fluor Daniel Inc. in Texas.

Teeler has managed several programs that received awards for safety and health achievements, including the Associated Builders and Contractors' "Safe Contractor of the Year" (1991-92) for Metric Constructors.
