Bridge repair work is scheduled to begin on Monday, May 17, as part of the Veterans Memorial Tollway (I-355) Roadway Resurfacing & Bridge Repair Project between the Reagan Memorial Tollway (I-88) and Army Trail Road and between I-55 and 75th Street.

Work to repair and maintain the 20-year-old I-355 roadway began in April and continues through fall, including rehabilitation of 24 bridges with structures in both directions along the corridor.

The first bridges scheduled for work include the Tollway ramp bridge carrying traffic from northbound I-355 to westbound I-88, Finley Road bridge over both I-88 and I-355 between Ogden Avenue and Lacy Drive, the 75th Street Bridge over I-355 and the Tollway ramp bridge carrying northbound I-355 traffic to I-88.

The repair work is part of the Illinois State Toll Highway Authority’s Congestion-Relief Program—Open Roads for a Faster Future—and includes improvements in coordination with DuPage County. Construction will affect traffic on the tollway as well as local roads.

I-355 Northbound Ramp Tunnel to Westbound I-88
Traffic shifts in the ramp tunnel carrying traffic from northbound I-355 and Ogden Avenue to westbound I-88 will begin at approximately 7 a.m. on Monday, May 17, and will continue for two months to accommodate repairs. Repair work includes expansion joint replacement, partial-depth repairs and placement of a new, 4-in.-thick reinforced concrete surface. The speed limit on the ramp will be reduced to 40 mph from 50 mph.

Finley Road Bridge Repairs
Traffic on Finley Road will be reduced to one lane in both directions between Ogden Avenue and Lacy Drive beginning at 7 a.m. on Monday, May 17, for approximately three months as the Illinois Tollway makes repairs on the DuPage County bridge carrying Finley Road over I-88 and I-355. Repairs include removal and replacement of expansion joints, installing a new drainage system, constructing retaining walls and repairing a slope wall. Delays are expected.

75th Street Bridge Repairs
In order to minimize the impact to traffic on high-volume bridges, work on the DuPage County 75th Street Bridge over I-355 will be scheduled over two weekends, Friday, May 21, to Monday, May 24, and Friday, June 4, to Monday, June 7. Lanes will be closed and traffic shifted on the 75th Street Bridge to complete work over the first weekend on the inside lanes and turn lanes, including partial-depth concrete repairs and slope wall work. Work in the outside lanes of the bridge will be completed on the second weekend. No work is planned on Memorial Day weekend, May 28-31.

Mainline Tollway bridges scheduled for repairs include Jackson Drive, Ogden Avenue, Finley Road, 22nd Street, Foxworth Boulevard, Oak Creek Drive, Roosevelt Road, IL Rte. 53, Fullerton Avenue and Army Trail Road.

Crossroad bridges over I-355 scheduled for repairs include 75th Street, 71st Street, Warrenville Road, Finley Road, Butterfield Road, Hill Avenue, Union Pacific Railroad, Crescent Boulevard, St. Charles Road, Pleasant Lane and North Avenue.
