TC3 offers more than 100 web-based training (WBT) courses, with additional courses planned as needs are identified. Here is what has been updated in June 2016.
Bolting is a common method of making connections, and care should be exercised in its design, installation and maintenance.
This new four-hour course is divided into two modules: “Installation” and “Inspection.” The modules cover the following topics:
Module 1: Installation
• Structural joints, their types and how they carry loads
• Structural fasteners and their care and handling
• Torque and tension and how they are measured and applied
• Approved tightening methods and tools
Module 2: Inspection
• Documentation and storage
• Components of pre-job inspection
• Calibration and testing
• Verification of installation
For both modules, participants need to have a basic familiarity with construction and mechanical principles. All participants in “Module 2: Inspection” should have mastered the principles taught in “Module 1: Installation” and should have experience in construction inspection.
Construction of PCC Pavement Series
This six-hour series has been completely revamped and reorganized with new information, processes and procedures related to the construction of Portland cement concrete (PCC) pavement. Improving and maintaining the quality of concrete is an important aspect of keeping pavements safe and long lasting. This training provides participants with an overview of the entire PCC paving process: setting forms, mixing, hauling, curing, sawing and joint sealing. The Construction of PCC Pavements series consists of three courses: “Production,” “Paving Process” and “Curing, Sawing and Joint Sealing.” This series can be taken in its entirety, or individual courses can be taken separately.
The first course, “PCC Production” covers construction quality, materials, the production team, plant operations and batch operations. The second course, the “PCC Paving Process,” covers establishment of line/grade and pavement foundations; slip-form paving, including reinforcement; PCC placement, texturing and troubleshooting; and fixed-form paving, including operations and form removal. The third course, “PCC Curing, Sawing and Joint Sealing,” covers crack prevention and curing, sawing and joint sealing.
TC3 brings users new and updated online courses in the focuses of construction, maintenance and materials. Its mission is to develop, maintain and provide access to quality training to enhance the competency of the nation’s transportation technical workforce.
