Webinar overview:
Pavement testing technology continues to evolve and is now more accessible to agencies and consultants across the country.  Pavement structural evaluation and design has significantly changed to maximize the advantages of using non-destructive testing to better characterize the in-situ pavement materials and the specific project conditions. With the transition from Empirical to Mechanistic-Empirical pavement structural evaluation and rehabilitation/reconstruction design methodologies, there has been an increased use of non-destructive investigation technologies such as Falling Weight Deflectometer (FWD), Ground Penetration Radar (GPR), and pavement distress surveys.  If you couple these non-destructive technologies with Pavement Management System (PMS) and Life Cycle Cost Analysis (LCCA), this allow pavement engineers to determine the most cost-effective, durable and reliable rehabilitation/reconstruction alternatives.

This presentation provides an overview of the state-of-the-art available non-destructive technologies, the most widely used pavement rehabilitation/reconstruction design methodologies, how they fit into current procedures, and the pros and cons of using non-destructive pavement evaluation technologies in roadways, highways and airport pavement design.

Speakers:

Alvaro Ulloa, Ph.D., PE
Dynatest

Alvaro Ulloa has a doctorate in civil engineering with emphasis in pavement engineering and construction materials with over 12 years of project and academic experience. Dr. Ulloa has extensive experience in functional and structural pavement evaluation, pavement management systems, automated and manual pavement condition surveys, mechanistic-empirical pavement design and analysis for airports and highways, non-destructive testing, accelerated pavement testing, vehicle-pavement interaction, pavement friction and roughness evaluation, life cycle cost analysis, state-of-the-art material characterization, and construction material laboratory testing.
