The Iowa Transportation Commission amended the state's transportation improvement plan for the current fiscal year to add an estimated $91.7 million in new highway and bridge construction projects because more funding is now available. The Iowa Transportation Commission said all the newly added construction projects are planned to begin this calendar year.
The commission approved the initial construction plan last June, but said it now has more money to use due to several factors— project cost savings, budget savings at the Iowa Department of Transportation and "receipt of federal funding that exceeded forecast amounts."
The commission added four bridge modernization projects on non-interstate roads; six interstate construction projects; three for safety; nine to improve non-interstate pavement and two non-interstate system enhancement projects.
