    Part of the solution

Paving performance is increased using global technology in the Volvo PF6110 tracked paver (Circle 910). The auger system on the PF6110 is independent of the conveyor system. Each of the two auger and conveyor drives uses sonic sensors for more precise handling of material. The conveyor system has chains that are automatically tensioned for proper performance and less downtime. The conveyor chain cover cleans itself, providing easier maintenance. Reversible augers and conveyors are available as optional equipment.

Hopper capacity for the series is 14.4 tons, giving the paver a practical production rate of 820 tons per hour.

A 205-hp Cummins Tier III engine powers the PF6110 paver. The PF6110 has a paving speed of 246 ft per minute and a travel speed of 10 mph. The paver includes a 30-kilowatt (37.5-kVa) generator with four 110-volt outlets.

The operator station features a new layout and a digital display. The display provides onboard diagnostic capabilities in four languages. The PF6110 has dual control stations. Both control consoles rotate and can pivot at two points for comfort, and each seat may be extended beyond the edge of the machine for improved sightlines.

A technically advanced, hydrostatic direct-traction drive system on the paver eliminates 70% of all mechanical drivetrain components to reduce maintenance costs.

    Big on paving

The largest rubber tire asphalt paver in the Terex Roadbuilding line and on the market, the Terex CR552 mainline paver (Circle 911), delivers more power and production capacities for full-width paving applications such as airports, interstates, state highways, industrial paving projects and major county road and highway construction. The paver’s heavy-duty frame and bogie pivot, kingpin and bogie bearings offer a class-high hopper load bearing capacity of up to 25 tons, delivering the extra surge capacity necessary to handle mainline paving.

The CR552’s 260-hp Cummins diesel engine meets stringent Tier III, C.A.R.B. Tier III and Stage IIIA emissions standards, while offering the power to efficiently handle full-width paving and ample reserve to operate electric screeds and lights for night paving. The six-cylinder, 24-valve engine varies the fuel stream to use only the amount of fuel necessary for the application, resulting in greater fuel economy and quieter operation.

Featuring the largest drive tire in the industry, the CR552 paver provides up to a 50% greater footprint than comparable pavers for improved traction. Its heavy-duty rear-drive motor offers increased drawbar pull for superior tractive effort. Contractors can further improve drawbar pull by up to 50% over normal two-wheel-drive systems by equipping the paver with the front-wheel-drive assist option.

    One way or another

Multiquip introduces the new MVC82 series one-way compactor (Circle 908) specifically designed for the efficient compaction of soil and gravel in trenches, around retaining walls and for any other challenging jobsite application.

The MVC-82 series has an antivibration system (AVS) that reduces vibration to the operator by up to 50%. It is equipped with a flip-over handle and four side-mounted grab handles for easy transport and loading.

It features a solid high-strength steel base plate with curved edges for excellent performance and smooth turns on hot asphalt. These models are powered by a Honda GX-160 or Robin EX-17 engine.

The MCV-82 Series delivers centrifugal forces ranging from 3,080 to 3,450 lb, exciter speeds ranging from 5,600 to 6,000 rpm and speeds up to 72 ft per minute. An optional impact-resistant plastic water tank also is available.

    Float on

Gehl Power Box Asphalt Pavers, the 1448 Plus and 1648 Plus (Circle 909), feature fully extendable screed extensions that allow the machines to be adapted easily to different job applications, such as driveways, recreational ball courts, bike paths and parking lots.

A full-floating, adjustable and vibratory screed is standard on both Power Box models. The screed’s 8-ft length and 13-in. widths provides a solid foundation for smooth, accurate and finished asphalt mats. Crown, invert and pitch adjustments are provided through screw-type jacks located at the center and ends of the main screed assembly. These adjustments allow the operator to maintain a consistent depth and develop drainage contours within the mat.

To heat the screed, the 1648 Plus uses a propane burner system. By preheating the screed, asphalt is prevented from bonding to the screed’s wear plate and scoring the mat finish. The 1448 Plus uses the engine exhaust to heat the screed with a propane-heated screed as optional equipment.

Other new features on the Gehl Plus Asphalt Pavers include an electronic control module and reduced noise levels. The module provides an automatic preheat timer and audible warning alarms. It displays indicator lights for engine temperature, engine oil pressure, battery and engine preheat. Noise levels have been reduced by three decibels compared with past models, so these pavers are more comfortable to operate and reduce operator fatigue.

    We are family

Caterpillar Inc. has added the AP600D Asphalt Paver (Circle 912) to its Paving Products machine family. The AP600D utilizes a wheel undercarriage that can be equipped with front-wheel assist or all-wheel drive options. It features a Cat C6.6 engine with Acert technology that is U.S. EPA Tier III emissions compliant, dual operating stations with Advisor display, tilting consoles, a high-capacity cooling system, a generator system and a material handling system with independent conveyor and auger controls. Another standard feature is the Product Link System. This system provides automatic machine location and hour updates that can be used to schedule service intervals, ensuring maximum uptime and minimal repair costs.

The AP600D can be fitted to the AS2252C screed or AS3251C screed. These screeds feature CANbus electrical systems that incorporate an interface with the Advisor display on the tractor to simplify diagnostics. The CANbus system utilizes less wiring for a more reliable electrical system.

The AS2252C screed features narrow front-mounted extenders that provide even material flow and reduced handwork when paving around obstacles. These screeds excel in commercial applications.

The AS3251C features rear-mounted extenders and utilizes heavy-duty support tubes that stabilize the extenders, providing even material flow for high-quality results on highways and streets as well as commercial applications.
