What Utahans know as “The Point” is more or less the only significant route into and out of the Salt Lake Valley region and is thus perhaps the most crucial corridor in the entire state. Bookended by mountains on either side, the I-15 widening and rehabilitation project expands this 7-mile stretch to six lanes in each direction from S.R. 92 to 12300 South and replaces all existing pavement. With 160,000 ADT, The Point’s facelift was long overdue, and congestion is expected to be sizably reduced. “It’s crazy congested—at least it was,” said project manager Tim Rose. “Now that we’re nearly done, it’s pretty free-flowing.”
