The Lexington Herald-Leader has reported that Guy Jones has resigned as a principal assistant at the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet's District 8 office.

Jones appears to be in the center of a possible scandal. The Cabinet's inspector general is examining revisions to a proposed route of a Somerset bypass that would require the KTB to buy land owned by Jones and brother Doug Jones. Jones was an administrative manager of the District 8 office before he resigned on Monday.

The inspector general also is trying to determine how Guy Jones balanced his cabinet post with a job as an U.S. Postal Service contract carrier in Waynesburg. The Herald-Leader reported Jones' dual employment last week.

According to Kenny Fogle, a principal assistant at the cabinet's Frankfort headquarters, Jones and four other principal assistants are responsible for acting as liaisons on state road issues between local governments and the cabinet. Jones has donated more than $10,000 to the Kentucky State Democratic Central Executive Committee and the campaigns of Democrats.
