Sound involvement
Smith-Midland Corp. has announced its involvement in four sound wall/noise abatement projects in 2008. The projects, located in Maryland and Virginia, have a total project value of $7.5 million.
Smith-Midland will provide 216,000 sq ft of absorptive noise wall to the I-95 Telegraph Road Interchange project to insulate nearby residential areas from highway noise, a contract worth approximately $2.3 million. This is part of an ongoing improvement of the roads around the Springfield interchange.
In Richmond, Va., Smith-Midland will provide 15,000 sq ft of screen wall that will serve as a visual barrier for surrounding communities encasing the Richmond New Bus Operations and Maintenance Facility. The project is valued at $615,000, including installation.

It’s electric
Master Bond Inc. has introduced Supreme 11AOHT, a two-component, room-temperature curing epoxy adhesive with high thermal conductivity and excellent electrical insulation properties. Supreme 11AOHT is a paste that can be applied without sagging or dripping even on vertical surfaces. It has a convenient mixing ratio of 1-to-1 by weight or volume. Supreme 11AOHT has a service operating temperature range of -100° to 400° and is well suited for applications involving thermal cycling.
Master Bond Supreme 11AOHT has high shear and peel strength. It bonds well to both similar and dissimilar substrates. This toughened compound has exceptional adhesion to most metals, ceramics, glass and most rubbers and plastics. Bonds are resistant to water, oil and most organic solvents.

Team effort
The new Hilti TE 70 and TE 70-ATC Combihammers unleash power while maintaining maximum working comfort.
With a 1,600-watt motor, the TE 70 delivers impressive power for fast drilling in various applications, including drilling in concrete, stone and masonry with TE-YX (SDS Max) bits; drilling holes for rebar dowels and anchor bolts; through-hole drilling and coring for mechanical and electrical applications; and chiseling and demolition of concrete and masonry.
For added operator protection, the TE 70-ATC features the unique Hilti Active Torque Control, which quickly shuts off power in the event the tool housing begins to rotate too quickly, which can occur if the drill bit catches, providing additional peace of mind to the user.
Built to last, the TE 70’s rugged components and efficient cooling provide superior durability and the rugged, glass-fiber reinforced housing protects the tool for long life. The TE 70 also requires low contact pressure to initiate drilling and has a dampened hammering mechanism for better working comfort.
The Hilti TE-YX (SDS Max) carbide drill bit line has been upgraded to provide maximum performance. The new TE-YX drill bits feature a stronger, rebar-resistant carbide tip attachment, optimized connection end and easier-to-read markings.

Large advantage
Gradall Industries Inc. has introduced the XL 5100 III excavator, the company’s largest production model for construction markets, representing dramatic new Gradall-engineered advantages over the model it replaces, the XL 5100.
The XL 5100 III, weighing just over 55,000 lb, reflects a new Gradall design philosophy that delivers increased performance, excellent cost containment and a shorter carrier for easier highway mobility and a shorter rear swing.
Unlike the XL 5100, which used two Cummins engines, the XL 5100 III uses just one Detroit Diesel Mercedes engine. Conserving fuel while producing greater horsepower, the new engine operates both the truck carrier and the upper structure and boom. The concept reduces maintenance costs with only one electrical system, one radiator, one set of filters and other nonredundant features.
While the old model required two fuel tanks, one with 86 gal and one with 50 gal, the efficient new engine is paired with a single 100-gal tank.
In the chassis cab, the operator can drive the excavator at highway speeds to one or more jobsites in a single day. From the upper structure cab, the operator uses the same engine to reposition the carrier and operate the powerful telescoping and tilting Gradall boom. New electronic joysticks replace hydraulic controls, providing optimum reliability. Using a switch in the cab, the operator can now select the Gradall, SAE or Deere joystick pattern.
Operators of the new model have greater control over their carrier positioning speed using a two-speed switch in the upper cab.

Quite the Spectrum
Dexter + Chaney has introduced Spectrum Mobile, a new module for its Spectrum Construction Software that enables field supervisors to submit daily field reports to the main office quickly, easily and accurately.
Spectrum Mobile eliminates the practice of filling out paper time cards in the field and re-entering that data into Spectrum’s payroll system. Instead, supervisors enter labor, equipment hours and production quantities directly into a mobile device or laptop, and the data flows to payroll for processing. That saves time, reduces errors and provides data to the main office in a timely manner.
Field supervisors have the option to use a rugged handheld PDA or laptop computer to transmit time card, material, equipment and other daily field information to the office. Spectrum Mobile consists of a PC-server application and client software running on Microsoft Windows Mobile handheld remote devices, laptops or PC workstations. The system can be set up using a wireless network or WAN (Verizon, AT&T) for rapid data delivery or with batch communications.
