The Florida Department of Transportation District 4 has selected HNTB as the prime consultant for the resurfacing, restoration and rehabilitation of SR 25 (U.S. 27) in Broward County.
HNTB will be responsible for preparing construction documents for 20.5 miles of roadway as well as two intersections, drainage, environmental permitting, signing and pavement markings, signalization, lighting, utility relocation and maintenance of traffic.
This project will address one of the most visible improvements for U.S. 27, which was upgraded in the 1990s to a four-lane, divided highway. U.S. 27 is heavily used by truck traffic and serves as an alternate to Florida's Turnpike. U.S. 27 also traverses nearly the entire state, from Havana at the north end, to Miami at the south, and is part of the Florida Intrastate Highway System.
The successful completion of this project is vital to improving this important commercial traffic link between southern and central Florida without adversely impacting the surrounding environmentally sensitive areas, including the adjacent Everglades National Park.
The project is expected to begin in spring 2006 with construction starting in fall 2008.
