John Deere and Wacker Neuson enter into strategic supplier agreement for compact excavators

September 10, 2018—As demand for John Deere construction equipment increases around the globe, the Moline, Ill. based manufacturer is entering into a strategic supplier agreement with Wacker Neuson to initially provide compact excavators in China, Southeast Asia and Oceania. The models will range from 1.7-7.5 tons and are specifically designed and manufactured for customers in the growing Asia-Pacific marketplace. The objective of the partnership is long-term collaboration in key growth markets. While both companies are committed to long-term strategic collaboration, the agreement will run for five years and can be extended in five-year increments. The initial rollout of four compact excavator models will begin in early 2019, and will predominantly be sourced from the new Wacker Neuson factory in Pinghu, China. Service and support of these machines will be offered through the John Deere dealer network.

CASE, Southeastern Equipment work with Team Rubicon on East Cleveland blight removal

September 10, 2018—CASE Construction Equipment, and heavy equipment dealer Southeastern Equipment, donated the use of compact track loaders and excavators for blight removal in East Cleveland, Ohio, as part of Operation Ray Chapman. “The Beast,” a specially outfitted CASE SV340 skid steer, also was deployed on the operation with a forestry mulching head to assist in removing years of overgrown brush. Equipment for the operation was supported out of Southeastern’s Brunswick and Mentor, Ohio, locations. CASE reps, 20 Team Rubicon volunteers and numerous local residents—all with the goal of reclaiming abandoned blocks from overgrowth and decay with an eye towards future development—supported the operation.  

David Lawry named president of the American Public Works Association

September 7, 2018—The American Public Works Association (APWA) is pleased to announce the appointment of David L. Lawry, P.E., as its president. Lawry, of Schaumburg, Ill.,  assumed the office at the association’s national conference, PWX 2018, which was held August 26-29 in Kansas City, Mo. Lawry is the director of municipal operations at Chastain and Associates, an engineering consulting firm in Schaumburg. His professional experience includes serving as director of engineering and public works for the Village of Schaumburg from April 2014 until his retirement in August 2018. Lawry also served as director of village operations for the Village of Wauconda, Ill., and as public services director for the City of Elgin, Ill., a position he held for 23 years.

Ali Tali, P.E., joins TranSystems as vice president and Northeast region bridge design practice leader

September 5, 2018—TranSystems Corp., a national transportation consulting firm that provides engineering, architectural, planning and construction solutions, welcomes Ali Tali, P.E., as vice president and Northeast region bridge design practice leader. He will work out of the company’s Boston office. Tali has more than 35 years in the design and management of bridge projects in and around Massachusetts. He most recently led the design of the MassDOT Rte. 1 Viaduct replacement project in Chelsea, Mass.
