BRIDGE REPLACEMENT: VDOT seeks offers for construction of Tarrara Creek Bridge

July 22, 2016

The department hopes to find a contractor by December to replace the structurally deficient bridge

The Virginia Department of Transportation is accepting estimates to build a replacement for the structurally deficient Route 35 bridge over Tarrara Creek in Boykins.

According to VDOT’s plan, the proposed bridge will be constructed on the alignment of the original bridge, but will be raised to satisfy requirements for water clearances under the bridge.

The bridge will carry two 11-ft lanes, 3-ft shoulders and 6-ft sidewalks with curbs to accommodate bicycles and pedestrians.

The guardrails will also be improved on either side of Route 35 approaching the bridge.

VDOT hopes to find a contractor by December of this year, and will notify residents before construction begins.
