The Intelligent Transportation Society of America (ITS America) announced the winner of the 2009 Student Essay Competition on June 1 during the opening session of its 2009 Annual Meeting & Exposition at the Gaylord National Hotel and Convention Center, National Harbor, Md.
Brendan Morris, a student at the University of California at San Diego won for his essay, “VECTOR: Trajectory Analysis for Advanced Highway Monitoring.”
Second place honors went to Pengfei Li, a student of Virginia Tech, and the University of California Berkeley’s Lanjun Wang placed third.
“The quality of these student essays is indicative of the understanding for the need for intelligent transportation system technologies and the caliber of our future researchers, developers and managers,” said Steve Dellenback, Ph.D., director of the Southwest Research Institute, which sponsored the contest. “Their depth of knowledge is impressive. We congratulate them for their efforts and achievements.”
ITS America’s Student Essay Competition was developed to promote student interest and future participation in the development of intelligent transportation systems (ITS) and solutions.
